Small Jewel Orchid (Ludisia discolor)
Unlike most other Orchids, the Jewel Orchid is grown to show off its beautiful foliage! Under ideal conditions, these plants will bloom with small, white flowers, but the main focus is the velvety, striped, dark red leaves. They also prefer to grow in soil, so there's no need to provide a special wooden/bark-based soil for the Jewel Orchid.
Even with the darker foliage, these plants prefer a medium to bright indirect lighting source. Direct afternoon light will burn the foliage, and too little light will cause growth to be leggy and pale. Water thoroughly when the first 2" of soil is dry. Avoid letting water sit on the leaves - too much water sitting on the leaf for too long can cause rot. We normally recommend a nice water bath for these plants!
