Huge Alocasia 'Macrorrhiza' (Giant Taro Plant)
Looking to make your guests stop in their tracks? We have the plant for you! Commonly known as the Giant Taro or the Upright Elephant Ears, the Alocasia Macrorrhiza is a fast-growing plant native to the rainforests of Southeast Asia, New Guinea, and Queensland. The vibrant green, ruffled leaves, the Alocasia 'Macrorrhiza', or the Giant Taro, gets its Giant name by having the largest un-split leaf in the world!
Being that it's from a tropical environment, the Macrorrhiza thrives in high humidity, warm temperatures, slightly dry soil, and medium to indirect bright light. The leaves are incredibly large, reaching 10 - 12 feet tall and 4 - 6 feet wide. The huge Macrorrhiza comes in a 17” planter. The “huge” normally only refers to the planter, but it is not a misnomer in this case - this plant is ENORMOUS! This makes them great as statement plants in a brightly lit lobby, foyer, living room or other big space. Over time this plant may lose some leaves but don’t be alarmed, this is just a natural occurrence in the plant's life cycle as the Alocasias prefer to have a few, very large leaves rather than many smaller leaves.
